Use TypePopper to quickly change the Type and Creator codes of selected files in the Finder. DO NOT USE THIS EXTENSION IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING. READ THE FINE PRINT BELOW BEFORE YOU INSTALL.
I initially wrote TypePopper because I couldn't find a small and simple public utility that does what it does.
How do I register it?
TypePopper is Shareware! If you use it, you have to pay. Below are the two ways to register:
(1) Double click the "Register Here!" contained in the original archive, fill out the appropriate information, and follow the instructions on screen.
(2) Visit our web site at <http://www.selznick.com> for information about registering on-line.
TypePopper costs US$12, US$96 for a site license, and US$240 for a world-wide license.

How do I use it?
1. Install TypePopper in the "Contextual Menu Items" folder in your System Folder. If this folder does not exist, create it. Alternatively, you can drop it onto your System Folder icon, and let the Finder do the work for you. The system can handle more than one installed contextual menu plugin at a time.

3. The "Type & Creator" menu item will appear at the bottom of the menu which appears when you Control-Click on a selection in the Finder. This menu item is hierarchical and displays a number of choices. Depending upon preferences and what kinds of files are currently selected, the menu can display different choices.
All possible menu items are as follows:
A. "Copy Type and Creator as Text": This menu item will copy (1) the file name, (2) the file type as a four byte code, (3) the file type as hex, (4) the file creator as a four byte code, and (5) the file creator as hex in tab-delimited text. Folder names are copied alone.
B. "Copy Type and Creator": This menu item will copy the Type and Creator code of the selected file to the clipboard. This item will not appear if (1) there is more than one file selected or (2) there is only one folder selected. It is forbidden to copy the type and creator of a folder. You may however copy Type and Creator of an alias.
C. "Paste Type and Creator": This menu item will SET the Type and Creator code of the selected file to the codes present in the clipboard. If the proper preferences are set, THIS OPTION WILL RECURSIVELY SET ALL TYPES AND CREATORS IN SELECTED FOLDERS!!! BE VERY CAREFUL! THERE IS NO UNDO! This item will not appear if (1) there are no files selected or (2) there is no Type and Creator present in the clipboard.
D. If you have defined additional type and creator sets in the 'Pref' resource, these will appear below the Copy/Paste operations described above. If the proper preferences are set, THESE OPTIONS WILL RECURSIVELY SET ALL TYPES AND CREATORS IN SELECTED FOLDERS!!! BE VERY CAREFUL! THERE IS NO UNDO!
How do I configure it?
1. Open the TypePopper extension in ResEdit
2. Open 'Pref' resource id 128
3. Modify the commands as follows:
• Copy/Paste Type: This will enable or disable the first two menu items (A and B above).
• Traverse Directories: This will allow type changing to recursively change ALL TYPES AND CREATORS OF ALL NESTED FILES. You should leave this off.
• Safety menu: When on, all options will be available beyond a skinny safety menu.
• Menu Title: The title of the menu out of which a hierarchical menu will appear.
• Menus: In ResEdit, choose the "*****" and select "Insert New Fields". Three fields will appear: Menu Name, Creator, and Type. For a given Menu Name, change the Creator and Type as set.
4. Save your changes. There is no need to restart after editing the resource.
A popular configuration:
Copy/Paste Type = 1
Traverse Directories = 0
Reserved = (Set all to 0)
Menu Title = Type & Creator

These settings will allow you to copy and paste (A and B above) type and creator codes, and set text files to ReadMe or not ReadMe.
Internationalization:
'STR#' resource id 128 contains the two strings that can appear in the menu.
#1 = Shown for A above.
#2 = Shown for B above.
